Notes on 5calls.org

Table of Contents

1 Overview

https://5calls.org is a website that makes it easy to call your representative.

2 Log

2.1 Earlier

  • Oppose Tulsi Gabbard
  • Oppose RFK Jr.
  • Oppose Pete Hegseth
  • Defend USAID

2.2 <2025-02-10 Mon>

  • Defend Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
    • This is clearly the job of government – accumulate reports of fraud and prosecute, on behalf of the taxpayers.
    • Why should my representative be on the side of fraud?
    • When people get ripped off and have no recourse, they'll remember.
  • Oppose the SAVE Act
    • Women who changed their names when they got married will have trouble with this
    • People who have moved from the state they were born in will have trouble
    • People born on military bases that have since closed may have trouble
    • Citizens of color are three times more likely not to have required documents, even though they are indeed citizens. Is that the plan? It seems hard to deny that it is.
    • Kansas already tried this in 2011 and it was a fiasco.

2.3 <2025-02-11 Tue>

  • Against National Abortion Ban (H.R. 722)
  • EPA: Protect the mission
    • NC has a lot of rivers and lakes and a lot of people fish and paddle in them
    • We have issues with coal ash
    • Coal plants to the west of us blow fine particulate matter over to us and that's an interstate issue.
    • Finally, climate change is not something the free market can handle. Only the government can.

2.4 <2025-02-13 Thu> (or so)

  • Holy cow, constitutional crisis, straight-up!
  • Also, email to my representative about town halls (not via 5calls, but, still).

2.5 <2025-02-19 Wed>

  • Constitutional crisis/taxpayer data
    • Looks like the administration is implementing the full Project 2025 plan, with Elon playing the lead in destroying government.
    • Looks like the plan going forward is for individual states or projects to plead with Trump for exceptions to this destruction, with the assumption being that red states will get exceptions and blue states won't.
    • Is this ok with you? Is this how you want America to function, going forward?
    • Are we to assume from your apparent inaction that you are ok with this complete disassembly of government?
    • Are you comfortable with Musk's kids downloading taxpayer data to thumb drives or uploading it to random servers in the cloud for access later?

Senator Budd's mailbox was FULL.

2.6 <2025-02-24 Mon>

  • Stop the gutting of the government by Musk and Project 2025 people
    • Tillis
      • I appreciate his stance on Ukraine, but it means nothing without action. We've seen enough of Republican Senators being "concerned".
    • Both
      • Musk isn't finding fraud. You know as well as I do, there's not much fraud to be found. Until recently, we had Inspectors General whose job it was to find fraud.
      • Instead, Musk is just gunning for programs he doesn't like, that are acting as a brake to whatever his plans are, and his plans are probably pretty fraudulent.
      • These purges are going to cost the government more money, in loss of efficiency and in early termination of contracts (which is illegal, by the way, and in violation of the Impoundment Act).
      • Are you really in favor of what's going on? Your inaction says you are, and this will be remembered the next time you ask us to send you back to Congress.

2.7 <2025-03-05 Wed> (Senators only)

2.7.1 Ukraine

What are we doing? Giving up soft power in the world big time. Are you ok with this? Please support Ukraine.

2.7.2 DOGE cuts

Musk continues to cut stuff he doesn't like (e.g., oversight) and give himself money. Cutting the weather service, for instance, gain nothing and loses us a lot. What is his end goal? And why does the FAA suddenly need StarLink? Please stop him.

2.7.3 Social security, Medicare, Medicaid

Are you insane? I know you're getting calls on this, so let me add my voice: please protect these programs.

2.8 <2025-03-10 Mon>

2.8.1 Foushee

If you need to shut down the government to keep Elon Musk and DOGE out of it, that's fine.

2.8.2 Senators: Ukraine, Mahmoud Khalil (pro-Palestinian protestor)

WTF are we doing? Republicans taking Russia's side as they invade an ally?

Disappearing a green card holder with no warrant or lawyer rights and no due process?
